Criminal justice colleges are seeing an increase in applicants due to the media’s current interest in criminal justice topics and scenarios. A criminal justice college is much more than what is portrayed on television shows and motion pictures today. Undergraduates hoping to enter into any criminal justice college will need
to fill a certain amount of requirements depending on the college the applicant
is applying for. At Westfield State College’s criminal justice program
(http://www1.wsc.ma.edu) there are thirty nine credit hours needed to complete
the program. They require that twenty one of these credit hours belong to criminal
justice courses that are foundations to the criminal justice program. These
classes include: Theories of Crime (which explores theories of causes ranging
from biological, physiological, sociological and cultural explanations), Law
Enforcement and Society (Studies the law enforcement of today’s society
especially the police), America Judicial System (Examines the law and legal
system and courts in our judicial system), Introduction to Corrections (Studies
the American Correctional System) and Research Methods in Criminal Justice
(examines the techniques and scientific methods to research, data collection
and data analysis). This in particular school offers a Bachelor of Science
degree in Criminal Justice courses you will take over the time you attend the
school.
