Forensic Degree
Forensic schools have seen a rise in popularity and interest with the increase of prime time television shows about Forensics. A degree in forensic science lures individuals interested in profiling, forensic psychology, DNA fingerprinting, and crime scene investigations. The justice system, however, scrutinizes candidates fairly hard and individuals with any criminal record or is a drug user among other things has little to no chance in the field. According to Florida State University’s School of Criminology and criminal justice, there are six major areas of study in a forensic science degree: A medical examiner, a crime laboratory analyst, a crime scene examiner, a forensic engineer, academic assistance (including psychological profilers) and technical assistance (computer analyst, polygraph, composite drawing). The UAB Graduate School (http://main.uab.edu) in Birmingham, Alabama has
graduate programs that offer forensic science degrees. Their Master of Science
in Forensic Science (MSFS) courses, provide an experience in the laboratory
as well as the classroom. Their Forensic Science Doctoral Training Program
is a Ph.D. level program for students wishing to earn a doctoral in forensic
science. This forensic schools program teaches research skill in order to identify
and solve various solutions that arise in a courtroom setting. Finally their
Certificate Program in Computer Forensics is sponsored by the department of
Computer and Information Sciences. In today’s world of computer viruses,
illegal downloading of documents and copyrighted materials, it is more crucial
than ever that Government forces have CF specialists to retrieve, protect and
uncover evidence of such acts. CF training provides individuals the necessary
tools to identify attacks on networks. On top of the training, certified CF
specialists will be prepared to testify in court as expert witnesses in civil
and criminal litigation.
